Ellensburg Police Make Arrest In 6-Month Old Attempted Robbery Case
On January 2nd, 2009 an attempted armed robbery occurred at the I-90 motel in Ellensburg, involving two male suspects who were selling a car on Craigslist. When the victims arrived, they were confronted by two men, one wearing a bandana over his face. Both pointed handguns at the victims and demanded money. The victims were able to flee from the scene and call police. No suspects were located when the area was search by responding officers.
Over the next six months, Ellensburg Police Detectives had followed several leads and through search warrants were able to locate a possible source of the Craigslist add and the subjects who may have been involved. A search warrant was served on a residence in Federal Way Washington on 05/27/2009. Seized in that search were three firearms, a large amount of cash, drugs, two computers and two cars. Through numerous interviews by Detectives, one of the suspects, Kyle Cope was located and arrested. An arrest warrant has been issued for a second suspect involved in the robbery, a Skyler Spring. Detectives continue to follow leads in the case to locate Skyler Spring. Kyle Cope was booked into the KCCC on June 19th on one count of Attempted Robbery 1st.
