Hundreds snap up free Hanford Tours
Hanford is a hot destination for tourists.
Hundreds stayed up until after midnight Tuesday, to sign up on-line for a limited number of tours of the nuclear reservation. The tours will be available from April through September.
Cameron Hardy with the Energy Department says 300 people signed up in the first 20 seconds early today, and more than 1,000 had their reservations in the first half-hour.
Only 2,500 slots were available for the five-hour tours that include the B reactor, which produced plutonium for the bomb dropped on Nagasaki to end the war with Japan.
