State legislators want to fund new Walla Walla prison unit
The City of Walla Walla could receive $6.8 million to design a new prison unit.
State legislators say they want to set aside money in the budget to design the new unit.
The goal is to shut down part of the Walla Walla State Penitentiary that's not cost efficient, and build a new unit that will ultimately save money for the state.
The state already shut down two prisons because of budget concerns.
