Search for Missing Hiker Continues
STEVENSON, Wash. (AP) -- If Wednesday's efforts fail to find a Portland hiker missing near Bonneville Dam, Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox says officials will evaluate whether to suspend the search.
He said searchers have covered about 98 percent of the territory where they believe 24-year-old Kathrine Huether (HEET'-er) might be located.
About 30 searchers are out Wednesday morning, going back over probable areas. Cox said aircraft have been requested to search, if rain clouds lift.
Cox says the search has been frustrating, but officials believe Huether got lost and was not a victim of a crime.
She texted a friend Thursday she was at a trailhead. Search operations began Sunday, and searchers found a credit card receipt with her name.
