State law says foster families can't talk to media if children go missing
A Facebook posting about a runaway teenager leads KAPP/KVEW to a loophole in state law about looking for missing foster children.
Even if they want to, foster families cannot release photos or talk to the media if a child is missing even though sometimes that is exactly what they want to do.
A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Social Services says the state needs to protect the identity and confidentiality of foster children, and does not think their policies would compromise a search for a missing child.
If there's an amber alert situation law enforcement can release a photo of a foster child to the media.
