A local apartment complex is helping the Tri-Cities homeless population prepare for the upcoming winter weather.

The Crossings at Chapel Hill in Pasco is collecting warm clothes and food this month.

Everything they gather will go to the Tri-City Union Gospel Mission.

The homeless shelter serves about 6,000 meals every month, and it provides clothes and shelter to as many people as it can; services that wouldn't be possible without the community's help.

"They're in need all year round. People kind of think about it more towards Christmas and Thanksgiving and we just kind of want to get a jump start on it as it starts getting colder out. Get them coats, long sleeves, socks, food. They need everything there" said Tracie Lawrence, Chapel Hill Apartments.

Lawrence says in just one day, the complex has already received half a dozen bags full of clothes and toys, and even a baby stroller.
