Hantavirus Death in Yakima County

A Yakima man had died of hantavirus.

It's the first death from the illness in Washington State since 2009 and the first reported case in the state this year.

Hantavirus is caused by a virus found in the droppings of rodents, most commonly in this area in deer mice.

Health officials say it is very important to use caution when cleaning up rodent droppings.
