Baechler to Challenge Hastings for Seat in Congress
A Yakima businesswoman is challenging Congressman Doc Hastings for his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Today Mary Baechler announced she will run as a Democrat for the Fourth District Congressional Seat held for ten terms by Hastings.
Baechler recently served as a community organizer for "Central Washington Progress." The group tried to change Yakima County leadership, and the way Yakima city council members are elected to office.
While she's never been elected to office, Baechler hopes to appeal to voters looking for a change.
"I think Doc Hastings is out of touch with the voters of this area. He is a long term Washington politician, I'm not a politician, I'll be really listening to the voters," says Baechler.
Baechler once owned the "Baby Jogger" company in Yakima, she believes her business experience will serve her well should she be elected to office.
