Toys For Tots volunteers are spending the day at Walmart stores across the state to collect thousands of toys for less fortunate children.

Volunteers have been braving the wind outside the Richland Walmart since 8 AM.

They say in the Tri-Cities, there are 1,500 families, including 5,000 children who are in need of help this holiday season.

Volunteers say they are working tirelessly to help make sure every child has a present this Christmas.

"We'd like to give each child a large, medium and small toy and stuffed animal for Christmas. So we're looking at 16,000 - 17,000 toys for what we're trying to generate" said Glen Carter, Toys For Tots coordiantor.

Volunteers will be distributing most of the toys they collect next Saturday at the Benton Franklin Fairgrounds.

However, they will still be looking for donations until the end of the year.
