A Richland man who almost died earlier this year after being shot in the chest is encouraging people to donate blood this holiday season.

Eric Goranson accidentally shot himself in July while he was moving a 40 caliber gun in Seattle.

Goranson was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he stayed for a month.

Doctors gave him a ten percent chance of survival, but Goranson was able to beat the odds after having three blood transfusions.

"I'm here because three people gave blood. It's that simple. And it took three people to go down and do a blood drive to show up with my blood type for me to be here today. So yeah, it saved my life. And anybody that can go out and do it is gonna save somebody else's life" said Goranson.

The 12 Days of giving blood drive continues in the Tri-Cities tomorrow.
