The man accused of killing his grandmother in Kennewick last month will likely stay in Eastern State Hospital for the next three months.

Adam Williams' lawyer told the court today that Williams is still at Eastern State Hospital, and the doctors there will likely recommend he stay for a 90-day evaluation.

Williams, 28, is being charged with first degree murder for killing his grandmother 87-year-old Viola Williams.

According to court documents, Adam Williams was inside Viola Williams' mobile home at 3324 West 19th Avenue in Kennewick when he got angry with her and punched her in the head.

The 28-year-old told police that "God had sent a guiding light and Angels to him. The light directed he kill Viola Williams."

After Viola Williams was on the ground, Ryan Williams attempted to kill her by pulling her head off, suffocating her with tin foil and then with a plastic bag and lighting her on fire, but all of those attempts were unsuccessful.

The court documents show Ryan Williams then found a knife in the kitchen, and stabbed her in the throat.

Police responded to the residence around 3:00 P.M. after Viola Williams' daughter found her laying on the ground.

John Hansens, Benton County Coroner, said an autopsy determined Williams died from a combination of blunt force trauma to her head, neck and torso and sharp force injuries (stabbings) to her head and neck.

A status hearing for Williams is scheduled for March 7th. It will be determined at that point is Williams will stay at Eastern State Hospital.
