Bechtel lays off 154 construction workers at vit plant
More than 150 workers at Hanford's vitrification plant are without jobs today.
Yesterday, Bechtel National handed out layoff notices and final checks to 154 construction workers at the plant.
A spokesperson from Bechtel tells us the layoffs are due to budget reductions and work being completed at the site.
We're told fewer on-site crews are needed for upcoming construction projects.
However, Bechtel is hiring more off-site engineers to finish designing the plant.
