We're four days away from the start of the Columbia Cup weekend, and hydroplanes are starting to make their way to the Tri-Cities.

This afternoon, the U-21, Miss HAPO, became the first hydroplane to make it to Kennewick for this year's races.

The boat is parked at the Albertsons on Clearwater Avenue.

The director of the Tri-City Water Follies, Kathy Powell, says all the work her team puts into the event throughout the year is starting to pay off.

"You know, you start to get a little worn down, but then you see one of these hydros and you just get giddy, and it's so exciting, i can't wait" said Powell.

The boat race events kick off on Friday morning.

Boats will hit the water for testing at 8:15 AM.

The boat race events run until late Sunday afternoon.

The Lamb Weston Columbia Cup, which is the final race of the weekend, starts at 4 PM that day.
