SARC looking for volunteers

The Support, Advocacy and Resource Center in Kennewick is searching for volunteers to help provide support services to victims of sexual abuse and violent crimes.

The center usually has at least 30 volunteers.

But right now, the center only has 23.

Staff members say the volunteers are needed to answer their 24-hour hotline.

They say volunteers can help provide crisis intervention, program information and emotional support to victims.

Volunteers are also needed to respond to hospital calls after hours.

"When somebody's been a victim of a crime, there's really no specific time, so we have to be able to respond 24 hours a day. And without our volunteers, we just wouldn't be able to do to the work that we do. So we absolutely have to utilize volunteers" said Renee Blackman, SARC Program Director.

Blackman says SARC is also in need of Spanish speaking volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering for the center, you can contact SARC at (509) 374-5391.

Volunteers need 32 hours of training.

Training sessions start tonight at SARC from 5:30 - 9:30 PM.

If you can't make that session, you can make it up.

The next training session is Wednesday from 5:30 - 9:30 PM.
