Benton Co. Sheriff Investigates Fatal Motorcycle Accident
The Benton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that happened early Sunday morning on County Route 12 (near Griffin Road) west of Prosser, Washington.
An investigation determined that the victim, Thomas T. Hutches, 49 of Grandview, was traveling westbound on County Route 12. Evidence at the scene determined that Mr. Hutches’ motorcycle left the roadway as he entered the s-curves behind the Washington State Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Weigh Station. For some unknown reason Mr. Hutches drove off of the paved road and onto the north gravel shoulder. Once leaving the road Mr. Hutches motorcycle grazed a series of three caution signs, warning of the left turn a head. He drove about 254 feet in the gravel before his motorcycle flipped. The motorcycle came to rest about 310 feet from the point it had left the roadway and his body was found an additional 30 feet away. There were no marks (skid or otherwise) left on the road prior to him leaving it.
Hutches died at the scene.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined and the investigation is still on going.
There is no indication that speed or alcohol was involved, but a blood toxicology report is still pending.
