Two students struck by car in Richland
Two Richland High School students are transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center after hit by a car near Chief Joseph Middle School this morning.
The two boys, who have not been identified, were injured around 6:45 a.m. as they were crossing Jadwin Street at Wilson. The Richland School district says both were transported to Kadlec Medical Center. The car ran over one of the student’s feet, but no bones were fractured. The other student hit his head on the windshield of the car. A CAT scan turned out negative.
42-year-old Juan Ramirez of Richland was traveling southbound on Jadwin and told police he did not immediately see the two boys, but was slowing when he struck them. Both boys suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The initial investigation shows that speed was not a factor in the collision. It appears that wet roadway conditions, darkness and driver inattention all contributed to Ramirez not seeing the students crossing the street.
