Prosecutors in Washington's largest counties are dropping all pending misdemeanor cases of marijuana possession after voters legalized the drug this week.

The King County prosecutor's office announced today its dropping 175 misdemeanor cases of marijuana.

Prosecutor Dan Satterberg says there's no point in seeking criminal penalties for conduct that will be legal next month.

The cases affected involve individuals over the age of 21 who possessed one ounce or less of marijuana.

Pierce County will also drop cases, although the exact number is unknown.

We called both the Benton and Franklin county prosecutors.

Each of them are out of the office and have not yet contacted us.
