UPDATE: Man Who Struck Boys Was Driving Under The Influence

Yakima police now say a man who hit two brothers with his car while the boys were walking to school this morning was driving under the influence.

Police say a 10 year old and 11 year old were waiting at a bus stop around 8 near the corner of West King Street and Rock Avenue, when a man, identified as 32-year-old Benjamin McKenzie, struck them with his Ford Taurus.

The boys were dragged nearly 80 feet before a neighbor was able to get McKenzie's attention to stop.

The 10 year old was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for multiple fractures and head injuries.

The 11 year old is being treated at a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Neighbors say cars are always speeding through their neighborhood, and it was only a matter of time before someone was hit.

"You know there's kids in this neighborhood; it's a residential neighborhood, where people live at. And you have to tell them these kids play outside, you have to stop people and tell them 'listen, I need you to slow down.' so, we kind of knew it was going to happen one day, we didn't want it to, but unfortunately it did," said Angel Lopez.

The 10 year old is still in serious condition -- the driver,  Benjamin McKenzie, was arrested and booked for two counts of vehicular assault.
