Air Quality

The air quality has been listed as "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" throughout Yakima, Kittitas, Franklin, Benton and Walla Walla counties.

The Benton Clean Air Agency said in a press release that recent wildfires throughout central Washington have created smoky conditions.

According to the state's website, Ellensburg sits in a "unhealthy" zone, which means everyone, especially sensitive groups of people, should avoid heavy exertion outdoors.

There is little wind expected in the next couple of days and that is going to keep the conditions "unhealthy" for the time being.

The unhealthy designation means individuals who are sensitive to air pollution should avoid outdoor exposure.

These groups include older adults, children, people who work outdoors and those with heart conditions and respiratory ailments such as asthma, bronchitis and emphysema.

Everyone else should avoid heavy exertion outdoors while the air quality remains unhealthy.
