Sheriff's deputies discover large animal fight in Zillah
Yakima County sheriff's deputies detain several people after discovering a large animal fight in Zillah.
Below is a release from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office:
On Saturday at about 11:47 PM, Yakima County Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to the 300 block of E. Centennial Drive in Zillah regarding an animal fight with 1,000 spectators.
Upon arrival, they found the activities were being held in a shop at an orchard.
Deputies found at least 1,000 people attending a series of chicken fights.
When the spectators spotted the deputies, many began to run.
People fled out of the doors and windows of the shop.
During the investigation, eight firearms were recovered.
Deputies also recovered numerous tools used to outfit the chickens for battle, and cash.
Deputies discovered that the ranch foreman was the promoter of the event.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Yakima County Jail.
Several other suspects were detained for attending an animal fight.
Charges will be forwarded to the Yakima County Prosecutor’s Office.
The owner of the property was notified as to what was occurring on his property.
