Dr. Ernest Moniz says if he's confirmed as the next U.S. Secretary of Energy, he would visit Hanford, and would reconsider whether disposal of defense nuclear waste should be addressed seperately from commercial waste.

During today's nomination hearing before a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Moniz was urged by U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Energy Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR) to base Hanford cleanup decisions on "good science and good timeframes."

Moniz also committed to ensuring adequate funding for Hanford cleanup and supporting the Manhattan Project National Historical Park.
