Penitentiary in Walla Walla on lockdown after large fight
WALLA WALLA - The Washington State Penitentiary put four of its units on lockdown Saturday after multiple offenders began fighting in the outside recreation yards.
The incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. when offenders began multiple fights during the evening outdoor recreation period. Several offenders received minor injuries during the altercation. At this time, the cause of the incident is unknown.
The four units known as the West Complex, which is the prison’s second-highest level, will remain on lockdown through the weekend while staff conducts an investigation. Visiting scheduled for the West Complex on Sunday has been cancelled.
The Washington State Penitentiary houses about 2,200 offenders in minimum-, close- and maximum-custody units.
