Mid-Columbia Earth Month Contest Winners
Today is Earth Day - and a group of five Richland students is honored and receives a $250 check for creating a "conserve energy" video for Mid-Columbia Earth Month kids essay and video contest.
The kids range from seven to twelve years old and the winning video is called "Fabulous Five Conservation of Energy."
A total of nine students in all won a little more than $1,000 from the Mid-Columbia Earth Month non-profit to help the environment.
This year's theme of the contest is "focusing our energy on the future."
"There's a lot of trash out there. And if we can clean it up, the animals can be safe and all of us can be safe," said Akshut Sahai, one of the contest winners from Liberty Christian Elementary School.
"When you see the future, you worry about the future. And then you meet kids like this and see what they're doing, and you see the help they have around them and it makes you happy for the future," said Mid-Columbia Earth Month Chairperson Gail Everette.
In the Tri-Cities the non profit group celebrates Earth Month each year with educational activities, projects, and special events.
