More Gas Taxes for WA Residents?
(AP) -- A transportation revenue package funded largely by a 10-cent increase in the state's gas tax has advanced from the House Transportation Committee.
The $8.4 billion package, passed by the committee Monday, would fund several large projects.
Included are linking State Route 167 and State Route 509 to Interstate 5, the North Spokane Corridor and a replacement for the I-5 bridge over the Columbia River.
The revenue package was passed on a party-line vote, with Democrats in favor and Republicans opposed.
It heads next to the Rules Committee.
If it makes it out of the Democratic-controlled House, the bill faces an uphill battle in the Republican-dominated Senate.
