Senate Passes Measure to Lower School Levy Cap
School districts in our region could potentially see a reduction in their levy funds.
Yesterday, the Washington state Senate passed a measure that would lower the amount school districts can raise through property taxes.
Currently, a district's maximum levy percentage is 28 percent of it's budget, the proposed bill wants to decrease that by one percent every year until it reaches 24 percent -- this is to prevent a more abrupt change when further limits take effect in 2018
The measure passed by a vote of 28 to 20 -- it will now go to the State House of Representatives.
