2013 World Champions
A dance team from our area wins a presitigous title today in Florida.
Fifteen members of the Eastern Washington Elite Dance team are thrilled to be the 2013 World Champions.
The senior hip hop dance team with 13 girls and two boys representing Eastern Washington headed to Florida last Thursday, hoping to bring back the title -- and they did it.
Today they are the 2013 World Champions.
This weekend, at the semi-finals they beat out 27 other teams with a full two-point margin, something that is unheard of at this level of competition.
Today, they nailed the finals with a dance routine, beating teams from across the country and around the world.
Dancer Brenna Cowgill says they became the team to beat this time around, and all the hard work has paid off.
"The other teams are after you, they want to beat you so bad and it's hard to keep in first [place] but we did it. There's no better way to say thank you than to be your 2013 World Champions," said Brenna.
"We want to say thank for all the support that they've given us and all that they've believed in us because it's really helped us and amd gven us a lot of fans back home," said dancer Destiny Ridge.
This is the second time the company has been at the worlds and taken a medal. They were world champs back in 2008 as well, but with a different team.
The team and coaches spent the day at Magic Kingdom, and all the teams that took part will be celebrating at a massive block party tonight.
The team returns to the Tri-Cities tomorrow with their gold medals, coveted trophy, with platinum championship rings to follow in the next few weeks.
