Pendleton 'crime property' could soon be shut down

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) - The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners will decide tomorrow whether to seek a court order to shut down the Rodeo City Inn, a Pendleton motel considered to be a hive of criminal activity.

The sheriff's office recently notified the owner and residents of the 52-room inn that it would ask commissioners to close it.

The commissioners can declare a place a crime property if any of 16 crimes occur on the property three or more times in a 90-day span.

The sheriff's office says it has responded to the inn 300 times this year.
