Mass Demolition Begins at Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Plant

Mass demolition is underway at the Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Plant.

Crews are removing piping from the west side of the Munitions Demilitarization Building -- the building where chemical munitions and agent were drained and destroyed in a high-temperature furnace.

Work is also being done to remove the red steel framework around the Pollution Abatement System.

Demolition is expected to be completed by February 2014.

During its seven year operation, the facility destroyed 3,720 tons of agent and 220,604 munitions.
