Oregon governor eyes special session decision in 10 days
Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber says he hopes to decide within 10 days whether to call the Legislature into special session to work on a deal that would reduce pension benefits for public employees.
Kitzhaber made the remark yesterday in a meeting with education leaders in Hermiston.
He's been trying to gain support for a combination of pension cuts and tax increases to lower costs and funding for schools and made his case in travels to school districts facing the toughest budget environments.
Kitzhaber spent yesterday and today in Eastern Oregon, with stops in Pendleton and La Grande.
