Hot Shots Tournament Tips Off
Thousands of people fill Yakima Avenue this afternoon for one of the biggest events in the City of Yakima.
Today marks the start of the 11th annual Hot Shots Tournament; over 1,900 players registered to compete this year.
This year's tournament features a skills challenge, where people can win prizes for the fastest time, and an elite bracket, for serious competitors.
Last year's event brought in over 12,000 people, and local competitors say that's a good thing for the Yakima Valley.
"I think it's awesome, something this big, and it's getting bigger every year," said D.J. Garcia, "I think this year they almost had about 500 teams, that's a record from last year, and I think it's just going to get a lot bigger; bring a lot more money to the community, it's great."
The tournament will resume at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
Yakima Avenue will be closed through the downtown area to traffic for most of the weekend.
