Kennewick Police Investigate Honda Thefts
In the past nine days, Kennewick Police have taken 8 reports of Honda auto thefts and attempted thefts.
Five of the attempted thefts involved extensive damage to the vehicle where many wouldn't start for the owner.
Three of the vehicles actually stolen have not been recovered yet.
Police say all the vehicles involved were between 1999 and 2000 models. Six of the models were Accords and two were Civics. Suspects apparently are using unlocked doors or forcing down windows to gain entry into the vehicles then doing extensive damage to ignition areas in such a way police don't believe the suspects know what they are doing.
The thefts or attempted thefts occurred all over Kennewick from the mall to 6th and Washington. Two were taken from the 4700 block of West Metaline. Six of the vehicles were in parking lots, two were parked on the street, but none were in a driveway.
Police say if anyone sees suspicious activity to report it and citizens should not respond to ads in the paper or online for cheap auto parts. If the price seems too good to be true then it could be stolen property.
