Kadlec Breaks Ground at New NICU
Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland will begin construction to expand it's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit next week.
Congressman Doc Hastings and several others broke ground today on the new facility.
Kadlec has the only level III NICU's in the entire region, meaning it treats the most fragile and high risk newborns.
More than half of the babies teated at Kadlec are tranfered in from outside the Tri-Cities.
The current NICU can hold 17 babies, but with the expansion, there will room for 27 bassinets.
The new unit will also have a family room and a lactation room,
The current NICU is 3,000 sq ft and it will be expanded to 15,000 sq ft and it's expected to open October, 2014.
The estimated cost for the NICU Campaign is $10,000,000 and Kadlec has already collected $6,000,000 which will cover the construction and they will continue fundraising to get to their goal in order to pay for things like equipment, furniture and telephones.
