KSD Needs Volunteer Tutors
The Kennewick School District is in need of volunteer tutors.
Team read is a program that provides tutors to work one on one with students to improve their reading skills.
Right now there are 185 volunteers working with students in 1st through 3rd grade at seven different elementary schools.
With 300 hundred students currently in the program and hundreds more on a waiting list, the demand for tutors is endless.
Carl Vanhoff is retired and spends 3 hours a week at Amistad Elementary School reading with kids and loves it.
"We create a different pathway for a student if you can't read you're stuck with an oral way of coping and getting through the world. If you can you can read directions you can read blogs. You can learn. You can do all kinds of things," Carl Vanhoff, a volunteer tutor.
Volunteer hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If you're interested contact team read or the Kennewick School District.
