Kitzhaber running for 4th term as Ore. governor
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Gov. John Kitzhaber has made it official -- he's running for a fourth term.
Two years ago, he set a record among Oregon governors by winning a third term.
This morning in southeast Portland he announced he'll run again next year.
Kitzhaber is a Democrat and a former emergency room doctor who got his political start as a legislator from Roseburg. He was elected governor twice in the 1990s and then sat out eight years.
His third term has been marked by initiatives in unifying Oregon's public education agencies and in his long-time interest, health care policy. But he's run into difficulty with the online rollout of Cover Oregon, the state's health insurance exchange.
His next big target appears to be tax reform.
Two Republicans seek their party's nomination.
