Sun Pacific Energy Donates Reading Van to Children's Reading Foundation
In an effort to promote literacy and get books into the hands of the children in the area, Sun Pacific Energy donated the Reading Van to the Children’s Reading Foundation.
The use of this van “helps to get books to children in areas that have little to no access to books”, said Executive Director Amy Ward. “This past fall, we used the van to deliver more than 4,500 books to brand new teachers in more than 18 different elementary schools in the area.” Amy adds, “The support of Sun Pacific Energy to literacy is a legacy in our community and this van is another example of their generosity.”
The three-fold mission of The Children’s Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia is to encourage and educate families and caregivers about their important role in raising a reader, support schools in assuring that students read on grade level by the end of third grade, and facilitate community involvement in helping young readers be successful.
The Children’s Reading Foundation administers the READY! For Kindergarten, Team Read, and Our Babies Can’t Wait Parent Workshops in Benton and Franklin Counties.
