A Walla Walla Sheriff deputy killed in the line of duty back in 2007 will be honored by having an overpass in Burbank named after him.

Earlier this week, the Washington State Transportation Commission approved naming the overpass at Highway 12 and State Route 124 after Deputy Michael Estes.

He was injured on February 6, 2007 as a result of a car crash near the overpass while responding to a 911 emergency call and died eight days later.

Estes is the only Walla Walla deputy ever to lose his life in the line of duty.

A sign unveiling ceremony is tentatively planned for next spring.
