Stay Safe While Last-Minute Shopping
Yakima police are reminding holiday shoppers to be extra careful as last minute shoppers crowd stores this week.
Police say car prowls tend to spike during the holidays, especially in shopping areas.
Two years ago, the number of car prowls in November and December was about 180 in Yakima, last year it dipped to about 80, with heightened security.
However, shoppers say they are still taking precautions, expecially with the holiday rush.
"Lock the doors, hide your belongings in the trunks, and don't have any visible [items] On the seats or anything," said Kevon Jones.
Police also advise that you change your parking spot if you are shopping for a prolonged period of time and make several trips back and forth, because theives can be watching.
