Closing of Vista Field

After much debate over the last several years, the end of 2013 also means the end of Vista Field, which will be closing it's runway for good tomorrow at five o'clock.

Burt Goranson has been housing his plane here since 1976.

Goranson said he's disappointed and surprised to see vista field go. Like most of the pilots at vista field Goranson used his plane for recreational purposes. He said he has made many memories at the airport.

"It will be a resource that will be lost and a bit of history that will be lost and eventually after a long period of time something will come of it and hopefully it will be beneficial to Kennewick but disappointed in the process naturally," said Goranson.

Tana Bader-Inglima from the port of Kennewick said crews will start powerwashing off all of the airports markings Thursday.

After that comes the decision about what to do with the land. Bader-Inglima said the city of Kennewick wants the community's help in figuring that out.

The Port of Kennewick plans on holding open meetings about development ideas for the area.

They have yet to decide when the first meeting will be but we will let you know as soon as they make a decision.
