Commerical UAV Testing to Take Off in Pendleton

Testing of commercial unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), better known as drones, will soon take off in Pendleton.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced today six entities approved for testing.

Of those groups is the University of Alaska who will use Pendleton as one of 18 sites in Oregon, Hawaii and, of course, Alaska.

As part of their research, the University of Alaska will study how drones can be used to monitor various crops, as well as test the navigation and safety standards of drones.
