Hanford Tank Leakage Estimates Released

The Department of Energy has released an estimate on how fast six single shelled tanks at the Hanford site are leaking.

In a statement released today, the cumlative rate of seepage from the tanks is believed to be less than three gallons a day.

Last week, Governor Jay Inslee learned from Energy Secretary Steven Chu that not one but five more single-shelled tanks were leaking at the Hanford site, in addition to the one tank originally discovered.

The Department of Energy says there is no immediate public health risk, but is working with state agencies to address the issues associated with these tanks.
