Tonya’s House invites public to open house today
The public is invited to an open house at Tonya’s House today for a tour of the recently-renovated home for at-risk youth girls.
Community members are encouraged to stop by the house at 328 S.W. Court Ave. in Pendleton between 4:30 and 6 p.m. to enjoy refreshments, take a tour of the renovated basement and updated main floor, and provide Board members with input regarding the future of Tonya’s House.
The community open house is part of the Tonya’s House Board of Directors’ strategic planning process, which began last year.
The Board is interested in hearing from the community about what else Tonya’s House can do to assist at-risk youth girls, the most important needs at Tonya’s House, the needs for a particular set of youth in the eastern Oregon region, and possible future steps for Tonya’s House.
The public is also invited to take a survey regarding these questions by visiting www.tonyahouse.org.
Community members who attend the open house will also see first-hand the renovated basement, which went from a concrete storage area to a warm, comfortable living room space used by Tonya’s House residents to watch movies, exercise and relax.
A small bathroom was converted to a full bathroom, complete with laundry room.
Upstairs on the main floor, new flooring graces the living and dining room floors, the bathroom was modernized and made more functional, and new windows help keep the house energy-efficient.
The renovations and updates were made possible by grant funding from the United Way of Umatilla and Morrow Counties, the Wildhorse Foundation, and other community donations.
