Oregon man among Americans killed in Algerian attack

One of three Americans killed during last week's terrorist attack on an oil field in Algeria is a resident of Eastern Oregon, according to state officials.

U.S. Representative Greg Walden said today that Baker County resident Gordon Rowan of Sumpter, Oregon, was among those killed.  Rowan was among dozens of foreign nationals kidnapped by heavily armed militants who attacked the gas field near the Libyan border on Wednesday.

Militants held the foreign workers for four days until Algerian special forces stormed the plant on Saturday.

Some managed to escape.

Officials in Algeria say in all, 37 foreign hostages were killed.  An Al-Qaeda leader has taken credit for the attack.
