Suspect In 2011 Shootout With Police Will Not Be Facing Charges
A suspect injured in a shootout with Yakima police officers in August of 2011 will not be facing charges.
Yakima police say and Eastern State Hospital has ruled Lance Nanamkin incompetent to stand trial.
Police say Nanamkin fired 18 shots at five officers with an assault rifle -- who then fired 50 shots in return.
Nanamkin was struck six time, two bullets hit him in the head.
The shooting was a result of police chasing Nanamkin frin Toppenish to Yakima in a vehicle that was reported stolen.
Police say Nanamkin is a known gang member.
