A suspect in a double homicide in the Yakima Canyon was in court for a preliminary hearing this afternoon.

Yakima police arrested 41-year old Troy Whalen last night on suspicion of killing Ryan Pederson and Michael Eby about a month ago.

Police say they found Pederson shot to death in the back seat of a car, and a short time later found Eby's body in the trunk of the same car.

According to court documents, the suspect told investigators Eby was killed in Whalen's garage, and he knew Pederson was dead after he and another suspect dumped the vehicle.

Whalen's family was at the preliminary appearance today, and say they are shocked.

Whalen is being held in the Yakima County Jail on two counts of first degree murder.

Investigators say they have identified Jose Pineda as a person of interest, wanted for questioning in connection to the two murders.
