Ellensburg Rodeo Given Prestigious Designation
The Ellensburg Rodeo has been designated a 2013 Wrangler Million Dollar Gold Tour rodeo.
The 2013 Wrangler Million Dollar Tour had two designations: gold tour rodeos and silver tour rodeos.The Ellensburg Rodeo is one of eight Wrangler Million Dollar Gold Tour rodeos. There are 13 silver tour rodeos.
The designations are gold or silver based on the committee-added purse money per event.
Rodeos must have a purse of more than $20,000 in each event to be considered a gold tour rodeo. The Ellensburg Rodeo has more than $400,000 in total prize money.
The PRCA’s Wrangler Million Dollar Tour rodeos form a series with their own set of standings and own two-stage playoffs and championships.
Tour rodeos span the country from Redding, Calif., to Sikeston, Mo., and from Ellensburg, to San Antonio, Texas, attracting the best cowboys competing for a chunk of the nearly $7 million in combined prize money.
This year’s rodeo runs from August 30 – September 2, 2013.
