Jury convicts Umatilla County man for repeated sex abuse
A jury convicts a Umatilla County man to almost 33 years in prison, with no possibility of early release, for repeated sexual abuse of two young girls in Umatilla County from 1998 to 2007.
Russell Baughman Jr. was conviicted after jurors listened to testimony from both victims during the two week trial, along with testimony from other family members, friends and law enforcement officers.
The jury deliberated for almost five hours before returning a verdict finding Mr. Baughman guilty of over fourty counts, or crimes, which included unlawful sexual penetration, sodomy and rape. The evidence at trial showed that Mr. Baughman had been a father figure to each victim during the times when he sexually assaulted them.
Prosecutors say Mr. Baughman met both of the victim's while dating their mothers.
