Suspect in Custody Following Shootout With Police
Officers wrapped up their investigation Walnut Avenue this afternoon after a man in his 40's led officers on a manhunt this morning.
Investigators say it happened around 4:30 a.m. after the 44-year-old man entered a home with a gun, following an altercation with the people living in it a few hours before.
The man fled after tribal police were called -- when an officer spotted him and attempted to question him, the suspect fired his gun at the officer, who subsequently fired back.
The suspect fled on foot, which prompted police to block off a large portion of the town in order conduct a search that involved Yakima County Sheriff's and SWAT team members from the Yakima Police Department.
"They responded, they entered the yard [a block away], where the suspect was found hiding under a plastic tarp," said Chief of Detectives, Stew Graham, "He was taken into custody without incident."
The man's name is being withheld until he makes his first court appearance.
Deputies say the suspect suffered a minor graze on his side, no one else was harmed during the incident.
