State Budget Battle
Time is running out for Washington state law makers to agree on a budget.
If a budget is not passed by the end of the month, thousands of state workers will begin receiving notices as early as Monday that they will be temporarily laid off.
Without an agreement by June 30th, the impact would be immense with 34 state agencies completely shut down, 24 agencies partially shutdown and 25 agencies remaining open.
"We've all been elected to represent our districts and the betterment of our districts as well as the betterment of our state and we're at a point now where we're no longer there. We're showing the worst of ourselves all the way around and I believe there would be a compromise, we need to get to that compromise sooner than later," said Rep. Larry Haler, 8th Legislative District.
Governor Jay Inslee wants every Washingtonian to know that he is hopeful and if no decision is made tonight, he will make sure the legislature is called in tomorrow morning to work through till the end of the weekend.
