Walla Walla Makes Major Improvements to Public Safety Radio System

The Walla Walla Emergency Services Communications Center (WESCOM) completes the installation of a major overhaul of the entire radio system.

Critical communications in Walla Walla County have been impaired and occassional intermittent since lightning strikes damaged microwave radio equipment in May 2011.  Radio coverage was so poor that firefighters in some parts of Walla Walla County had to utilize Franklin County Dispatch.

Despite a series of technological and financial setbacks, the equipment was finally replaced and  funding, including grant money, made it possible for this project to be completed.

A few minor improvements to the system still need to be accomplished, but first responders say they're happy the longstanding needs of WESCOM can finally be met.
