Vigil Planned For Man Killed In Downtown Yakima
A candlelight vigil is planned Tuesday for the man found dead in downtown Yakima last week.
Friends of 70-year-old David Lee Childs are hoping to remember the man, who was best known as an avid shoe collector.
Childs was found beaten and stabbed to death in a planter near North Front Street.
One friend says the vigil is meant to celebrate all the good things Childs did for the community, rather than mourn his passing.
"I think the important thing is while in sadness, we have to think of all of the things he did contribute and all the positive things about him and not let him be defined by just one event," said longtime friend, John Baule.
Police say they are still looking for a suspect.
The vigil will start at 9:30 p.m. tomorrow on the first block of North Front Street.
